Management (212) Associate of Applied Science Degree

Purpose: This program is designed for students seeking a strong foundation upon which to launch a career. Businesses change and adapt frequently to market, technological and competitive forces and so must their workforce. This need for change places great emphasis on the importance of people who are problem solvers, collaborators, and communicators, to enable a rapid response to the forces of change.

This degree is designed for students who seek full-time employment immediately upon completion of the AAS in Management program as well as those who seek to ready themselves for the next stage of their career. The curriculum is adaptable to varying career interests. For example, there is a track for those seeking a project management-oriented position and tracks for those interested in marketing and first-level supervisory positions.

Educational or Occupational Objectives: Virginia Peninsula Community College prepares students to be problem solvers, collaborators, and communicators who can distinguish themselves and succeed in various industries and circumstances. The lessons learned are transferable and valuable: making graduates attractive candidates for entry-level positions, mid-level positions, and staff positions where knowledge of professional standards, teamwork, attention to detail, professionalism, and timeliness are valued A sampling of occupations that value this preparation include:

  • Administrative Analyst
  • Business Analyst
  • Cost Estimator
  • First Line Supervisor
  • Logistician
  • Management Analyst
  • Market Research Analyst and Marketing Specialist
  • Medical and Health Services Management
  • Purchasing Management

Students are required to follow one of the three defined tracks. The tracks are Project Management, Marketing, and Supervision. Failure to complete the courses as specified in these tracks may diminish the value of your preparation and attractiveness to employers. Deviations from the prescribed course sequence should be done only after consulting with an academic adviser.

Admission Requirements: Students should be proficient in basic keyboarding before entering this program.


Articulation Agreement/s: Students who are interested in transferring to Old Dominion University to continue the AAS in Management (212) to BS IDS-Leadership (ODU Articulation) 2021-2024  plan should meet with Academic Advising early to determine and discuss requirements.
