Purpose: The Computer-Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) AAS degree is designed to equip students with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to pursue careers as designers and Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) operators. Through this program, students gain hands-on experience using industry-standard CAD software and tools. Elective opportunities showcasing the relationship between CAD and Machining/CNC Machining are offered. Additionally, students have the opportunity to explore emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), enhancing their versatility and competitiveness in the field.
Course Offerings: CADD courses are offered primarily at VPCC’s Hampton Campus, with flexible scheduling options that include both daytime and evening classes. Many courses are also available online to accommodate diverse learning needs and schedules.
Special Notes: A key component of the program is the completion of CAD 280 Design Capstone Project, which allows students to apply their knowledge and skills to a comprehensive, real-world project. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue summer internship opportunities to gain practical experience and further explore career paths in computer-aided drafting and design.
Funding: Students enrolled in this program may be eligible for financial assistance through the Get a Skill, Get a Job, Give Back (G3) Funding. For more information on eligibility and application, please visit the program’s funding page.
Articulation Agreement: Students who are interested in continuing their education beyond the associate degree may take advantage of an articulation agreement with Old Dominion University. This agreement allows students to transfer into ODU’s Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology - Mechanical Engineering Technology program (2024-2027 plan). Students intending to transfer should consult with Academic Advising early in their academic planning to ensure all transfer requirements are met.
