Benefits Program Specialist (221-480-14) Career Studies Certificate

Purpose: This career studies certificate is designed to provide human service specific content and practical experiences within various organizations and agencies. This curriculum requires students to take courses rooted in critical thinking, historical perspectives of human services, professional skills, effective communication strategies, family structure and dynamics and a human services internship experience. This career studies certificate falls under the Associates of Applied Science in Human Services.

Educational or Occupational Objectives: This program will enhance a student’s knowledge and skills to competently and ethically implement and practice professional and technical work involving management of a human service benefits caseload. This program provides a pathway for students to explore careers in social work, counseling, mental health, education, and public administration. As a result, effectively perform the duties of individuals working with various populations to include the elderly, children, families, substance abusers, and community developers. Industry professionals can use the knowledge and experience gained from this career certificate to enhance marketability and continue studies in the Human Services Program.
