Welding Technology: Advanced (221-995-02) Career Studies Certificate

Purpose: Employment opportunities exist for individuals proficient in advanced welding techniques. The purpose of this certificate is to provide an excellent career technical education experience that prepares students for entry level careers, self-employment, and furthering their current employment opportunities in a broad range of welding and fabrication industries including shipbuilding, construction, automotive, manufacturing, and aviation.

Educational or Occupational Objectives: The Advanced Welding Career Studies Certificate gives students an opportunity to further their education by building on the Welding Technology: Basic  Career Studies Certificate. It is a response to the short-term training needs of many adults in our service region. It is designed to provide students with the additional knowledge and skills needed to obtain employment in the welding field. The fundamental objective of the program is to teach students how to weld proficiently enough to earn a variety of AWS Certifications and prepare them to successfully enter the workforce in the welding industry. Individuals trained in this program must be able to meet welding performance demands of the industry.

Program Recommendation: This program requires good motor skills, good hand-eye coordination, and good vision which are critical in welding careers. Strength and stamina are also necessary qualities as welders may be required to lift as much as 100 pounds and carry 50 pounds, and may spend hours stooping, kneeling, crawling, walking, and standing.
