Fire Alarm Systems (221-427-10) Career Studies Certificate


Purpose: The Career Studies Certificate in Fire Alarm Systems provides individuals with the principles of fire alarm system design, construction, installation, inspection and testing in order to prevent or minimize potential losses from fire, water, smoke and/or explosions. Successful completion of this program will result in the award of a career studies certificate in Fire Alarm Systems, as well as student preparation for the National Society of Protection Engineers - National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Fire Alarm Systems Level I, II, III and IV certification examinations. While designed to prepare graduates for industry certification and immediate entry into or continued advancement within the workforce, students may continue their studies in the Fire Protection Systems degree (A.A.S.).

Career Information: The role of a fire alarm system designer and/or technician is to safeguard life and property from the devastating effects of smoke, fire and explosions by applying sound, multi-disciplined engineering and construction principles to fire protection systems. Careers in this field may be in the private or the public sector. Government, insurance companies, industry, manufacturers, and consultants are prospective employers of fire alarm system technicians.
